Giving back is one of the ways Acculift Foundation Repair helps strengthen the communities we serve. Through our Lifting Our Communities quarterly giveback initiative, we made our first donation of $1,500 to Dogs For Our Brave. The nonprofit organization rescues dogs from local shelters, professionally trains them as service dogs, and provides them at no cost to wounded veterans who have honorably served our country.

Supporting Dogs and Veterans

Our donation supports Dogs For Our Brave’s day-to-day operations, with a focus on its training program. The 18-month training program prepares dogs to become invaluable companions, offering both practical skills and emotional support. It takes approximately 24 months and $50,000 to train each dog.

Even after being paired with a service dog, veterans continue to receive help. Dogs For Our Brave covers all training, food, equipment, and veterinary care expenses throughout the dog’s lifetime. When the dog retires, the organization also provides the veteran with another service dog.

Expanding to Serve More Veterans

As the need for service dogs continues to grow, Dogs For Our Brave is preparing for an exciting new chapter. The organization currently operates from a 1,700 sq. ft. facility and plans to move into a nearly 17,000 sq. ft. facility in early 2027. The expanded space will allow them to significantly increase the number of veterans they serve.

Stories That Show the Difference

Founded in 2014 by Andy and Marylynn Gladstein in California, the nonprofit organization is headquartered in St. Louis and serves veterans nationwide. To date, they have placed 40 dogs with veterans, and they currently serve 15 veteran service dog teams coast to coast.

For veterans, these companions provide greater independence, confidence, and quality of life.

Corporal Clark Cavalier, USMC, received his first service dog, Josie, in 2015. Josie helped Clark for almost 7 years. In keeping with its lifelong commitment to veterans, the organization paired Clark with Frido in 2022 to help him continue his healing journey.

Sergeant Joe Bukoffsky, UMSC, was medically retired after being shot in his left knee in 2010, and he underwent a leg amputation following 9 years of chronic pain. After being paired with Bravo, Joe’s wife can lessen her role as a caregiver, and Joe can spend more time playing catch with his sons.
